CONTEST ENTRY (Part 2): Silliness on Duty

Description

I'm kind of nervous about this. It's my first time writing for other people's characters. And writing proper accents. And writing anything vaguely similar to flirting, or being saucy.

I'm really not sure how well this will turn out, but what the hell...

Date: 4th November 3008
Targets: Tapirmon (2)
Class: 3
Description: The targets come out at night, and stalk civilians, before putting them in a temporary paralysed state and absorbing data from mobile appliances. Apart from disturbing nightmares, civilians generally unharmed, and remember little of these incidents. Targets can dissolve into foggy substance; specialist equipment required. Appearance of targets is marked by the appearance of a thick fog in the surrounding area, although time between fog and target appearance can vary.

Assigned: J, Z, M

The three agents sat in a row behind what was once a train car, but had split in half and had been sent to the scrapheap. Ziva could remember that incident; a Keramon appearing in the driver’s carriage, so she recalled. It was rather intriguing how her job kept looping round.

“Is anything happening yet?”
“No, no sign of them so far. They could come any moment though, so hurry up with that thing, will you?”

Ziva sighed and looked at the two goofballs beside her. Jasper had managed to drop his comms device into a drain on the way here, and the other Agent was now trying to get it working again. She had already removed and replaced a couple of damaged components, and was still soldering away, her tongue sticking out, completely focused. She had only been with the Agents for a few months now, but she had integrated herself pretty quickly.

“You two, just leave that thing for the moment. We need to be prepared.”

The wild Irish girl didn’t register, so Jasper gently nudged her. She sat up and removed her headphones, “Sorry, what was that?”
“I said will you leave that alone. It’s not important.”
“But it needs fixing, ma’am. This plonker dropped it, remember?” She nodded her head over at Jasper, grinning.
Ziva felt a twinge of annoyance. “That plonker you’re talking about happens to be my partner, Miss Maguire.”
Jasper leaned over, “Aw, don’t worry, Zee-Zee. I’m your own personal plonker.”
Another twinge of annoyance, mixed with embarrassment.

“Don’t worry, ma’am. Everything’s set up and ready, it’s going to work.”
“Are you sure?”
“Well, it should work. It’s new and exciting stuff for me.”
“That’s not very reassuring.”
“Come on, Ziva, when have I ever screwed up anything I’ve worked on?”
At this, Mollie lowered her goggles and set to work on the mobile gadget again. Ziva rolled her eyes, “Honestly, that girl needs to grow up.”
Jasper grinned himself, “Aw, Zee-Zee, don’t be like that.”
“She’s an Agent now Jasper. She can’t afford to be immature. And don’t call me Zee-Zee, we’re working!”

~

“God, do they ever shut up?”
Atop the wrecked carriage sat Placomon, a strange, armoured fish Digimon and Mollie’s partner. Her spiked tail gently swung, and she rested her weight on two bony gauntlets. Yalimon sat beside her, dangling his feet over the edge. Panthermon was layed out next to Ziva, catching a quick nap.
He heard Placomon’s comment and grinned over in her direction, “Light’n up a little, will ya?”
“Why? I shouldn’t have to sink to everyone else’s level.”
“It’s just a bit of fun. Ya know, that word which ya don’t seem to get?”
Placomon rolled her eyes, “You’re as bad as they are.”
“Maybe I am. Or maybe yer just an antisocial madam.”
“Don’t try and pick a fight with me. I can’t be bothered right now.”

Yalimon’s grin turned into a snarl. “Jeez, I’m only tryin’ to be friendly. If ya want me to pick a fight, then come on. Bring it.”
Placomon’s stern expression finally gave in to a little smile.
“Yeah right, I could kick your ass anyday.”
She shrugged and looked out over the foggy scrapyard. Yalimon rolled his eyes beneath his fringe, but decided to shut up.

~

“You know what I think, Ziva? You’re jealous, aren’t you?

Ziva glared at Jasper, “Don’t be stupid. She’s just not taking anything seriously.”
“Wow, where have I heard that complaint before?”
“That’s different. I mean look at her.” Ziva got out a thermos of soup while she watched the other woman, in her ridiculous headgear, attaching another component.
Mollie glanced to the side, “Jasper, she’s giving me the eye again.”
“Don’t worry, she’s mostly harmless.”
“I guess you’d know, wouldn’t ya?” Mollie grinned again.
Ziva’s glare intensified, “Please stop talking to him like that.”
“Don’t worry, ma’am. I wouldn’t mess with ya fella.”
Jasper leant back against the car, “It’s only friendly chat, Ziva.”
Ziva said nothing, taking a drink out of the thermos.

“Hey Jasper, gimme a screw will ya?”

Ziva choked, spraying soup everywhere, including over Panthermon, who opened an eye. “What did you just say?”
Jasper and Yalimon were laughing their heads off, and Mollie just carried on as if nothing had happened.
“That’s it!”
Ziva stood up and marched over to Mollie, who looked up, completely innocent.
“What now? I didn’t do nothing?”
“I won’t tolerate you talking to Jasper like that.”
Mollie picked up one of the tiny screws from the backplate beside her, holding it out in front of her like a defense charm.
“I was only asking him for one of these, I swear! I’ve nearly fixed the comms device.”
“Come off it, you know exactly what you meant.”
Mollie’s completely straight face twitched a little. She gave a little smile, then collapsed into giggles. Yalimon was still going behind her.
“Sorry, ma’am. I couldn’t help it.”
“I’m reporting this later. You can drop that thing and go and check the equipment. Now!”
Mollie stuck her bottom lip out. “Okay.”
Turning to Jasper, she said, “It should be working now. Just put the backplate back on and it’ll work.”
Jasper, suppressing his laughter, took the device. “Thanks, Mollie.”
“No big deal.”

“I said now!”

Mollie trudged off, still grinning like a maniac. Ziva glared at Jasper, who merely raised his arms in defense. “I didn’t say anything!”
Ziva sat down again, quietly seething. Placomon sighed and flipped herself off of the carriage roof, waddling after her partner on her muscular arms, all the while muttering to herself.
“I’m surrounded by idiots...”

:iconbarghestmon:, :iconinakamon:, I hope you like it. I have no idea if it will do well, but this was a lot of fun to work on.

This also helped me to improve my screenshot style, at least I think it has.

Anyway, that's it for my entry. Good luck everyone, and roll on Christmas! :#1:

Great work here. i too loved both the picture and the written piece. Just as Barghestmon said, they were all in character and thoroughly entertaining to read.
